While ACOG’s new Practice Bulletin with VBAC guidelines is a step in the right direction, there is still a lot of work to be done to reverse the over decade long trend of rising cesarean rates and declining VBAC support. Here are some things you can do to help facilitate change.
- Contact facilities and care providers in your area that currently have a VBAC ban and urge them to change their VBAC policy in light of ACOG’s new guidelines. Check ICAN’s VBAC Ban database to find out what policies are in your area.
- Send ACOG’s VBAC Practice Bulletin and ICAN’s Press Release to your local media outlets, encouraging them to do a story about local VBAC policies and intervention statistics
- Spread the word! Along with sharing the new Practice Bulletin and ICAN’s Press Release with others online and in person, ICAN’s “After A Cesarean” brochure is a helpful resource for women looking for information on sorting through their future birth options after a cesarean. Also, let women know about the VBAC Ban database.
