Do you want to make a friend smile like this?
Yes, you too can make your own uterus pillow.
Supplies needed:
· Needle and thread or sewing machine with needle and thread
· Fabric (1/4 yd) the one pictured is flannel, but you can use felt, cotton or whatever scraps you may have
· Pillow stuffing
· Paper for pattern-making (I used large drawing paper)
· Scissors
· A pointy thing to help push the stuffing inside the fallopian tubes. I think I used an unsharpened pencil.
First, figure out what size you want your pillow to be. Draw a uterus with fallopian tubes and ovaries the size you want the pillow to be. If you need help getting the proportions correct, do a Google images search choosing black and white line drawing. Make sure the fallopian tubes aren’t too skinny or it will be difficult to stuff. After you draw it the size you want, draw another line a ½ inch outside of that line. That will be your cutting line. Make sure you have enough fabric to make two of that shape in that size. If you don’t, get more fabric, or make a smaller pattern.
Cut the fabric following the outer line of your drawing.
Pin the two pieces right side of the fabric together.
Stitch the fabric together starting on one side of the cervix. Stitch around the uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries, and back down the other side of the uterus. Leave the cervix open.
Turn the fabric right side out. You might need to use your pointy tool at this point to make sure the fallopian tubes are clear and that the ovaries are rounded.
Take your pillow stuffing and begin to fill your pillows starting with the ovaries and fallopian tubes. Make sure they are as full as you want them to be. Fill the uterus with stuffing.
Tuck the unsewn edge of the cervix in and hand stitch it closed. Your pillow is complete.
You may add extra decoration if you want or you can leave it as is for a minimalist look. Enjoy!
