As of August 1st, it will be illegal for insurance companies to deny coverage to women with a previous cesarean in the state of Minnesota.

The Twin Cities chapter of ICAN worked along with the Minnesota Better Birth Coalition to promote this legislation. State Senator John Marty introduced the bill, joined by Senators Prettner-Solon, Pappas, Limmer, and Rummel as co-authors. Representatives Thiessen and Thao sponsored the bill in the House. Ultimately, the bill passed as a part of an omnibus health and human services bill.

The full text of the bill can be read here. The lines of interest are 2.7-2.9.

ICAN Twin Cities plans to team again with the Minnesota Better Birth Coalition in the next legislative session to pursue more legislation, including a bill to make VBAC bans illegal in Minnesota.
