Tell us about the birth climate in your area.

ICAN of Southeastern Pennsylvania serves Philadelphia, Montgomery County, Delaware County, Chester County, and Bucks County. We have a number of outstanding midwives and doulas in our area that provide tremendous support to moms attempting VBAC. It would be helpful if medical providers gave women more information about VBACs, even if they don’t support them in their particular practice or hospital. Women should know all of their birth options when considering pregnancy and birth after a cesarean section.

When I was pregnant with my first child, I heard about ICAN on a podcast for new moms. I recommended the organization to a friend of mine who had recently given birth by cesarean section and was looking for support. When I became pregnant with my second child, I believed I could find the support and resources at my local ICAN chapter to attempt a VBAC. The women volunteering at my chapter shared a passion for educating women about their birth choices and were incredibly informed about the providers in our area. I knew I’d found a place where my plan for birth was supported and respected.

ICAN played an important role in my birth story with my second child, and I have seen our local chapter positively influence many women. It’s both a great honor and responsibility to continue the good work of ICAN in my community and hopefully contribute to its growth in our area.

I am the mom of two playful and energetic kids. I have a Master’s degree in Mass Media Arts and Journalism. When I’m not working as a business writer, I enjoy volunteering at my church, journaling, running, and traveling.
