“I want others to know that having a repeat cesarean is not always a “safe” choice. More women need to know that they can have VBACs, even if it means finding a new care provider.” ~ Emily McAuliff, ICAN of Pensacola

Please introduce yourself to ICAN:

My first birth was a cesarean after 24 hours of labor and three hours of pushing. I ended up being told I was too small. My baby was 6 pounds 14 oz. My first VBAC baby was 8 pounds 1 oz.

I have a Bachelors of Arts in English Education. I have three kids and one on the way. My husband is in the Air Force and we enjoy spending time with our kids. People would describe me as easy going.

What led you to join ICAN?

I first learned about ICAN through my VBAC research. My friend Ashley led me to the local organization. I love helping others to achieve their birth goals and learn their options. I wish other people knew that ICAN isn’t anti-cesarean. It is supportive of helping those who have had cesareans by arming them with knowledge.

How do you share ICAN as an organization with others:

I wish other people knew that ICAN isn’t anti-cesarean. It is supportive of helping those who have had cesareans by arming them with knowledge.

Where will you be serving women through ICAN?

ICAN of Pensacola serves Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, and Escambia counties. We have many supportive doulas here but I wish we had more birthing options.

Please share your upcoming Chapter meeting:

Our next meeting is Thursday, August 17 at 6 pm at 9511 Holsberry Rd B-8, Pensacola, FL 32534-1326.

Congratulations, Emily!
