ICAN is excited to announce Chelsea Tate as our newest Chapter Leader!
“My most passionate belief is that women deserve true informed consent before making a decision.” ~ Chelsea Tate, ICAN of the Triad
Please introduce yourself to ICAN:
I’m 24 which people are always shocked to hear because I’m such a grandma. I married to my wonderful husband, Will, and together we have 2 kids, a 3-year-old boy, Levi, and an almost one-year-old, Sophia. I own a large doula agency in the Triad called La Bella Birth and Baby. Makeup is another hobby of mine. I do makeup for weddings and other events, as well as hair. My husband and I are obsessed with The Walking Dead and Jeopardy.
What led you to join ICAN?
I have known about ICAN for years. I started out as a VERY depressed first-time mom that was traumatized by an unnecessary cesarean and very terrible maternal care. ICAN was recommended to me by a large VBAC facebook group and I have known about this organization ever since. What drew me to ICAN was the passion for educating women on VBAC and wanting to lower the national cesarean rate.
How do you share ICAN as an organization with others?
Getting face to face with women and families in meetings and learning more about the specific needs of my community. I’m excited about this because I know for a fact that there is a huge need for education in my community and so many people in my area are traumatized by their experiences. I’m excited to see them be empowered by making their own healthcare decisions!
Where will you be serving families through ICAN?
The Piedmont Triad of NC (Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point, Lexington, Thomasville). There is a huge tribe of support here in the northern Triad. Lots of doulas and birth workers in Greensboro and Winston! However, the CS rate in my town is over 45%. I’d like to see more VBAC options for women and a much lower cesarean rate.
Please share your upcoming Chapter meeting:

Congratulations, Chelsea!
