ICAN is excited to announce
Sarah McLaughlin Baize
as our newest Chapter Leader!
“My strongest belief is that most of our efforts need to go into preventing moms from ever having a first cesarean. After doing this training, I realize how few moms get their VBAC experience.” – Sarah McLaughlin Baize, ICAN of Phoenix
Where is your chapter?
ICAN of Phoenix. We serve all of the Phoenix metro area.
What part of being an ICAN Chapter Leader are you most excited about and why?
I am a child and family therapist, but have not been working for 3 years. I am excited to be able to contribute and give back to others again in a different capacity.
Please share a little about yourself.
I have a Masters degree in child and family therapy and have worked in early childhood and parent education for several years. I also have been coaching basketball for a high school for almost 10 years. For the last three years I coach, but otherwise stay home with my 5 year old and 3 year old. I love to push myself physically with things like running and hiking. I also really love to read, but don’t do that much anymore since I have become a mom.
If you could change one thing about the birth climate in your area, what would it be?
Recently midwives are being scrutinized and unfairly punished for things. People are fighting for that to change, but it continues to happen so far.
What do you wish other people knew about ICAN?
I wish they realized what an amazingly supportive group this was! This is the least judgemental, most unconditionally supportive moms group I have ever been a part of.
When is your next chapter meeting?
Our next meeting is Wednesday, June 27th at 7:00 pm. See the event info here!
Congratulations, Sarah!
