Please share a little about yourself.
I am a wife and mother of one – my daughter, Selah Grace. I am also am an apprentice midwife training to be a traditional midwife and a practicing Doula. I love leading women’s circles, specifically one pertaining to birth trauma and a general women’s circle, based on every day struggles, stresses, pressures, etc. My hobbies tend to be birth related and lead to finding ways to better the birth world and make a large impact in the community. In my down time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and having an occasional “girls’ night” where we typically enjoy some wine, talk and create vision boards. My husband and I enjoy good coffee and craft beer and love checking out new coffee shops and breweries when we are able. We also love watching shows or movies.
How did you find out about ICAN? What drew you to our organization?
My midwife asked me if I was interested in leading a chapter, as another local midwife had just started one but was looking for someone to take over. I’m so passionate about helping to educate other women about cesareans and VBAC and providing support, as I had a homebirth turned cesarean myself.
What part of being an ICAN Chapter Leader are you most excited about and why?
I get to organize local events and meet so many new women! Not to mention, I get to provide support for women that I desperately needed after my own cesarean and let them know they are not alone.
What would you say are some of your strongest beliefs about cesarean/VBAC awareness?
Cesarean statistics are way too high! A VBAC is much safer than many people believe. Every woman deserves to attempt a VBAC if she so chooses.
What area does your chapter serve?
ICAN of the Twin Ports serves northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.
