The members of the ICAN Board are very pleased to announce our newest edition, Martha Basham as our new Publications Director. We look forward to her bringing publications to the next phase of print and electronic media development, educational material distribution, overseeing eNews and Clarion, as well as, overseeing current print materials and literature.

We are sure you will find Martha an amazing addition to the ICAN family. Please email Martha at publications@ican-online.org to meet and greet her.  Below are words from Martha about her background and her journey to this position.

Hi!  I am very eager and excited about being a part of the ICAN Board of Directors as the new Publications Director!  Outside of my work with ICAN I am a wife to the love of my life and mother to four amazing children ages 7, 5, 3, and 2.  (3 girls and one boy in that order). I am also a two time VBA2C mama, the second being an HBA2C. Along with my advocacy work I love to run, write, knit, camp, and spend time with my family.

I found ICAN in 2007 when I was pregnant with my third baby ( and trying to plan my elective cesarean because I thought I had no alternative). Finding ICAN changed my life!  I went on to VBA2C and regained my sense of self and empowerment. I feel such an affinity towards the women of ICAN and the women who comprise this phenomenal organization and the women we serve!

About a year ago I started my local chapter of ICAN (ICAN of Western Wisconsin) and also took on the responsibilities of becoming Midwest Regional Coordinator and assisting with the creation and growth of new chapters and support of existing chapters.   It has been such an honor to serve ICAN and give back to an organization that gave me so much!  I look forward to continuing and expanding my work through the role of the Publications Director!

The publications available through ICAN are so vital to the women and families we serve. Whether it be the Clarion, our blog, or enews, I look forward to maintaining the integrity of our organization through these publications so to continue providing optimal advocacy and awareness to as many people as possible.

It is my humble hope that every woman have access to the resources ICAN has to offer and that ICAN be known to every woman and family that will experience childbirth.

I look forward to serving in this role and am honored to have been afforded the opportunity!

Martha Basham
