The International Cesarean Awareness Network is powered by the selfless efforts of our numerous volunteers. We cannot thank our dedicated volunteers enough for their cooperation and service in assisting ICAN with accomplishing its mission. In an effort to acknowledge some of our amazing volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to offer support, education, and advocacy for the mothers in their area, the International Cesarean Awareness Network is pleased to announce Emily Hagood as the February 2017 Volunteer of the Month. Emily is a dedicated volunteer out of ICAN of Huntsville, GA who’s been with ICAN for two years. We appreciate the work she does!
How did you first find ICAN?
Not long after my c-section from my first birth I began looking up resources about VBAC and found information about ICAN online.
What motivates you as a volunteer?
My daughters are my motivation. I want them to know their options, to be informed, and have empowered births.
Do you have a profession or any other passions outside of ICAN? I work for my church as the Preschool and Children’s Ministry Associate.
What was your proudest moment as an ICAN volunteer? What about your hardest?
One of my proudest moments has been leading Silent Auction at our Annual Mom Prom. Each year it continues to grow and because of this we have been able to double the monetary amount for our Doula Grant for Expectant Mothers. The hardest moments are often finding that right balance between family and volunteer work. I am very passionate about ICAN’s mission and so I spend many hours a week with volunteer work and this is compounded during Mom Prom season. In the end, it is so worth it.
Thank you, Emily, for all you do!
