ICAN is excited to announce Jenn Carrasco as our newest chapter leader! She has completed training and will be leading ICAN of Southern New Mexico!

Tell us about the birth climate in your area.

"Women are being given choices and they arent being given true informed consent... especially in my area. Its completely unethical for doctors to talk down to a woman based on her desire to educate herself on her option or for considering a VBAC." ~ Jenn Carrasco

We are in Alamogordo, NM and we will be doing meetings in Alamogordo, NM as well as Las Cruces, NM. There is a lack of knowledge/education here not only about your options but your rights. We don’t have a ton of support because we are in a small town. However, the support we do have is absolutely AMAZING.

Why get involved with ICAN?

I found ICAN when I went through my own HBC (homebirth turned cesarean) after having two prior cesareans. The wealth of information that they offered as well as the support was incredible. I am excited about having this resource available for support and education. We are in a small town with one OB office, one midwife, and one hospital. There is a serious need for evidence-based education and unbiased nonjudgmental support. I wish more people knew ICAN existed and the support and resources that are available. I get lots of questions asking what it is and what ICAN does.

Please share a little about yourself!

Friends would say I was patient, supportive, strong, huge advocate and extremely caring. I am a military spouse to an amazing and supportive man. We have three beautiful children (16 yo daughter, 11 yo daughter and 1 yo son) I am a Labor and Postpartum Doula, CLC, Childbirth Educator, and placenta encapsulationist. I guess you can say I am extremely fascinated with birth! I love to craft, travel, shop, and anything birth related.

Next meeting?

We are hoping (pending everything goes through in time) to have our first meeting in Las Cruces on June 24th and our first meeting in Alamogordo June 27th

Congrats, Jenn!
