“ICAN has information for women to help make informed choices about birth options.”

~ Theresa Morris, ICAN of the Brazos Valley

Please introduce yourself to ICAN:

I am a mom of two–a surprise breech (cesarean) and a VBAC. I am a sociologist who studies labor and birth. I love to garden, exercise, and spend time with my family. I am passionate about birth!

What led you to join ICAN?

I heard about ICAN after I had an unwanted cesarean in 2000. I am excited to bring this wonderful organization to women of the Brazos Valley!

How do you share ICAN as an organization with others?

I believe that women have control over their own bodies and the right to make choices about their bodies. I believe that women deserve access to scientific research about pregnancy, labor, and birth. I believe that women deserve the right to make choices during labor and birth. I believe that women have the right to prevent unnecessary cesareans and to have a VBAC. ICAN has information for women to help make informed choices birth options.

Where will you be serving women through ICAN?

Brazos County, Texas. We have a thriving birth center that has a wonderful relationship with a nearby hospital. Overall though, I would make our area more VBAC friendly.

Please share your upcoming Chapter meeting:

Our first meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 23rd from 7-8 pm in the meeting room at the Larry J. Ringer Library (1818 Harvey Mitchell Pkwy S. in College Station).

Congratulations, Theresa!
