“Women are being coerced into cesareans and repeat cesareans they don’t want and this is a violation of their human rights. This is above all a reproductive rights issue.” ~ Rachel Curtis, ICAN of El Paso

Please introduce yourself to ICAN:

I have a background in journalism and travel, but now I focus on being a better mom and building my doula business. As much as I wish my parents and brother were closer, I love my life here on the Mexican border.

What led you to join ICAN?

I’m an HBAC mom and I know how much completing childbirth meant to me; the quality of information ICAN provides is a critical counterweight to the dearth being shared in doctors’ offices.

How do you share ICAN as an organization with others?

We are helping to shift the culture around cesareans! We take them as a routine part of birth but women know that leaves something missing. As a chapter leader, I can help validate that feeling.

Where will you be serving families through ICAN?

El Paso, Texas.

Please share your upcoming Chapter meeting:

Join us for a “Trial of Labor” screening on January 8, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. at 1312 East Rio Grande Avenue, El Paso, TX 79902.

Congratulations, Rachel!
