ICAN is excited to announce Erin Davis as our newest Chapter Leader!

I’m excited to leverage my training in childbirth education to help moms gain access to evidenced-based information that they can use to help understand the benefits and risks of repeat cesarean and vaginal birth after cesarean.” – Erin Davis, ICAN of Southwestern PA

How did you find out about ICAN?

I first heard of ICAN when I was reading the book “Pushed” by Jennifer Block about 10 months after my first child was born.

What areas does your chapter serve?

We serve southwestern Pennsylvania; we cover the Pittsburgh, PA metropolitan area including parts of eastern Ohio, West Virginia, and northwestern and central PA.

Please tell us about yourself.

I hold 2 undergraduate degrees; in Spanish Language and Literature and Labor & Industrial Relations. I currently work full-time as an administrative assistant at Carnegie Mellon University in the Computer Science Department. I sat at the end of April for the Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator (LCCE) examination and plan on teaching childbirth education classes beginning in 2019. I hope to complete a doula training program over the next year in addition to working with our local ICAN chapter. I have two beautiful children and a loving husband and enjoy spending free time exploring our city and traveling.

What is the best thing about the birth climate in your area?

We have a very supportive nurse-midwife practice at our largest teaching hospital, as well as a robust birth worker/doula network. We are also proud to have the nation’s largest free-standing birth center as well as rapidly growing human milk bank.

Where can we find out more about your chapter, including meeting info?

Check out our chapter’s Facebook page here!

Congratulations, Erin!
