Financial Transparency

ICAN became tax exempt under 501c3 status in May of 1986. We were incorporated in New York in January of 1992. We have an all volunteer organization including our working Board of Directors that split the work of an executive director. Earlier in ICAN’s time Chapters held their own non-profit status, bank accounts, and filing responsibilities. The financial structure that we have now includes all of ICAN under a group exemption with one EIN #, one bank with separate accounts for ICAN funds and Chapter Funds. The Board has created internal structures and processes that account for and hold the chapter’s funds and disperse them as needed. ICAN Board of Directors is responsible for tax and compliance filings so that our chapters can focus on their missional community needs.
